I AM.

For the longest time the definition of beautiful, especially for us women,  has been some specific discriminative image. I can remember as a young teenager I had a hard time looking at the mirror and thinking that I was actually beautiful. I used to cry myself to sleep sad because I wasn’t pretty enough or skinny enough. I didn’t understand that it was wasted time while I could have been growing myself. But I didn’t realize that I was- beautiful. Society has these constructed images of beauty; small waist and big boobs, pretty face and big butt. We all participate in this body shaming by doubting how beautiful we are or by calling some girl ugly because she has freckles on her face. Listen up, I am about tired of us tearing the women down. You over there got a big behind? You’re beautiful? You got a face full of acne? You’re beautiful. You with a chubby tummy? You’re beautiful. I need you to do something. The next time you look in the mirror, I need to tell yourself you’re beautiful – because you are.

Your body is going to be with you till the end of time. Could you change it? Yes. But its best left as God made it. You might as well love it. Don’t let anybody tell you how to love yourself.
